Gynaecological Ultrasound Scans

Accurate Diagnosis for Women's Health Conditions

Gynaecological ultrasound provides a clear, detailed view of the uterus, ovaries, and pelvic structures. Our OB-GYN specialists use these scans to diagnose a wide range of conditions with accuracy and sensitivity.

  • Pelvic Ultrasound — Assessment of the uterus and ovaries for fibroids, cysts, polyps, and structural abnormalities
  • Transvaginal Ultrasound (TVS) — High-resolution imaging of the uterine lining and ovaries; particularly useful for early pregnancy and hormonal assessments
  • Follicular Monitoring Scan — Tracking ovarian follicle development for infertility management and reproductive planning
  • PCOS Assessment Scan — Identification of polycystic ovarian morphology to support hormonal diagnosis
  • Endometrial (Uterine Lining) Scan — Assessment of endometrial thickness; relevant for abnormal bleeding, infertility, and perimenopause
  • Ovarian Cyst Evaluation — Monitoring of known cysts; characterisation to guide management decisions
  • Fibroid Mapping — Detailed location and size assessment of fibroids prior to treatment planning

Diagnostic Investigations & Screening

Comprehensive Testing to Complete the Clinical Picture

Alongside ultrasound, our OB-GYN department offers a range of investigations to ensure thorough assessment of your reproductive and hormonal health.

  • Hormonal Blood Tests — FSH, LH, AMH, oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, TSH, prolactin panels for fertility and hormonal health assessment
  • Cervical Screening (Pap Smear) — Routine and clinical smear testing with expert colposcopy referral where required
  • Breast Screening Referral & Assessment — Clinical breast examination and onward imaging referral for comprehensive breast health evaluation
  • STI / STD Investigations — Confidential testing with prompt, discreet results and treatment
  • Infertility Investigations Panel — Combined ultrasound and blood work to support fertility diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Prenatal Screening Bloods — Full antenatal blood screen including blood group, rubella immunity, hepatitis, and anaemia markers
  • Postpartum Follow-Up Assessments — Uterine and hormonal recovery checks following delivery

Why Ultrasound Matters at Every Stage

From First Scan to Menopause — Imaging That Supports Your Whole Health Journey

Ultrasound is not only for pregnancy. Regular gynaecological imaging is an important part of proactive women's healthcare. Many conditions — including ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, and PCOS — are most effectively managed when detected early through imaging.

Our specialists recommend incorporating ultrasound as part of your annual well-woman review, particularly if you experience:

  • Irregular, heavy, or painful periods
  • Pelvic pain or pressure
  • Bloating or urinary changes
  • Difficulty conceiving
  • Abnormal hormonal symptoms
  • Perimenopause or menopause-related concerns

Frequently Asked Questions About Ultrasound Scans

Do I need a referral for an ultrasound scan?

No referral is required. You can book directly with our OB-GYN specialists for any type of ultrasound scan or investigation. If you have an existing referral from another provider, we are happy to accommodate this.

Is an ultrasound scan safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Obstetric ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and has an established safety profile for both mother and baby. It is routinely performed throughout pregnancy as part of standard antenatal care.

What is the difference between a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound?

A transabdominal scan is performed over the abdomen and is the most common type used in pregnancy. A transvaginal scan uses a small, smooth probe placed gently inside the vagina to provide a clearer, more detailed view — particularly useful in early pregnancy, fertility assessment, and evaluation of the uterine lining. Your doctor will recommend the most appropriate type based on your clinical needs.

Do I need to prepare before my scan?

For a transabdominal pelvic scan, we may ask you to attend with a full bladder for better image quality. For a transvaginal or obstetric scan, no special preparation is usually needed. Our team will advise you when booking.

Can I bring a partner or family member to my pregnancy scan?

Yes, you are welcome to bring one support person to your obstetric ultrasound appointment.

Is the scanning equipment clean and sanitised?

Absolutely. All ultrasound probes and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised between each patient in line with clinical infection control protocols.

Do you accept insurance for ultrasound scans?

We accept a range of insurance plans. Please contact our team or visit our Insurance page to confirm your specific coverage before booking.
