Published November 2025 • Health Connect Clinic
Daily Oral Hygiene Tips
- Brush at least 2 minutes, twice a day covering all tooth surfaces.
- Use fluoride toothpaste and drink fluoridated water to prevent decay.
- Do not rinse with water immediately after brushing; just spit out excess toothpaste.
- Rinse with fluoride mouthwash or chew sugar-free gum when brushing isn't feasible.
- Replace toothbrush every 3 months or when bristles are worn.
- Floss at least 1–2 times daily to reach difficult areas between teeth.
- Use a straw to reduce contact of sweetened drinks with teeth.
- Limit sweetened drinks; replace with water, milk, or yogurt.
Proper Brushing Techniques
- Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against gums.
- Move brush gently back and forth in short motions.
- Brush all surfaces including inside surfaces with up-and-down strokes.
- Brush your tongue gently to remove bacteria and freshen breath.
Proper Flossing Techniques
- Take 18–20 inches of floss and wrap around middle fingers of both hands.
- Hold tightly, direct floss between teeth using a gentle rubbing motion.
- Curve floss along one tooth when it reaches the gum line, slide gently between gum and tooth, touching both surfaces.
- Repeat for all teeth to ensure complete cleaning.
